A British Penguin Tour
Our family took a trip to England and Wales, staying mostly in the vicinity of Bristol, during the course of which we visited four zoos with penguins. The highlight was a visit to Dudley Zoo where our younger son got to meet the chicks of the penguin a friend had "adopted" there for him. Here are some of the photos:

This is one of penguin Arkwright's week old chicks at the Dudley Zoo.

The Humboldt penguin enclosure there has an advantage over every other in the world: Dudley Castle.

King penguins at Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water.

Birdland's resident celebrity, movie star Seth, who appeared with Danny DeVito in Batman Returns.

People watching the diving penguins in the underground tube.

Gentoo and African penguins at Living Coasts in Torquay.

The tubes beneath allow people to watch swimming Gentoo and Macaroni penguins.

I'm in love... sigh... with the cutest little guy ever. And he's only 1 week old. :P

thanks for posting these... they're awesome!

Very welcome! The zoos there are really fantastic...we've been to some top US zoos, but we were really impressed with how well-spaced the British ones were and how close people could get to the animals without apparently disturbing them.

You are very welcome! It was such a perfect trip, especially Dudley...a Norman castle and penguins right next to each other!
